Our Theme Festival is fast approaching and I hope everyone is planning on participating or attending. Our theme this year is Asymmetrical meter. It is to take place at Castaic Middle School at 2:00 PM on April 24th. The fee per student is 25 dollars. Unlike our general recitals the students will be evaluated by a judge. Please have checks made out to SCVMTAC and sent with a recital form to the home of John Fairbanks 24159 Del Monte Drive #385 Valencia CA, 91355. The due date for forms and money will be April 16th. Recital forms can be downloaded and printed from our branch website, www.scvmtac.org.

Hello Teacher's,

We have a theme for the Festival Recital on April 24th (time: TBD) at Castaic Middle School. Break out your Mission Impossible sheet music because the theme is going to be Asymmetrical meter. So please limit your selections to pieces that are entirely or partially written in a meter that cannot be subdivided evenly such as 5/4 or 7/8. Don't for get mixed meters as well. This obviously narrows the selection down to mainly contemporary music, however if you search around even Baroque composers such as Buxtehude composed in asymmetrical meters. (hat tip: Josh Pifer)

I think this will be a really "cool" theme for the kids and hopefully we won't lose a lot of hair teaching these pieces. So start preparing, there is less than seven months until the event. Keep your eyes peeled for more information and let me know if you have any questions.
