The
SCV Branch has activities all during the year that students participate in
including the following:
MONTHLY RECITALS which mingles selected
students of the teachers' classes in a common performance
COMMUNITY SERVICE RECITALS special recitals
presented for people who cannot get out and go to a recital otherwise. These
performances count towards the students' community service awards at schools,
scouts, etc. and are a contribution to their community
an in-depth testing
procedure for music students called the CERTIFICATE OF MERIT. This exam
consists of evaluations in: MUSIC THEORY, EAR TRAINING, SIGHTREADING,
TECHNIQUE, IMPROVISATION and PERFORMANCE.
a THEME FESTIVAL
which is a competition that encourages the perfection of works by the
composers which meet the criteria of the current theme for the Certificate of
Merit Theme Recitals.
MASTER CLASSES conducted by professionally
exemplary teachers which involves students of the teachers of the
association.
a BRANCH HONORS RECITAL where exceptional
students chosen by the judges of the Certificate of Merit program perform and
students chosen by the same judges may be chosen to perform at the STATE
CONVENTION which occurs in early July each year
a program for
students who write original compositions wherein they can send their original
compositions to be evaluated, along with other students around the state, by
two professional composers in the COMPOSERS TODAY program. A high score on
the original compositions allows the students to try out for performance in
the SYMPOSIUM, and if chosen, will perform at the STATE CONVENTION.
a program for
students who improvise music. Exceptional improvisation students may be
chosen to participate in the IMPROVISATION CELEBRATION at the STATE
CONVENTION.
The
SCV Branch meets once a month from September through June of each year and
their meetings are filled with teacher enhancing materials that they in turn
take to their studios and apply to their individual forms of teaching.
